She is a formidable opponent that uses different evolutions of Eevee as her main Pokémon. This article will tell you everything you need to know about defeating Cassiopeia in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Who is Cassiopeia in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Cassiopeia is introduced to players as quite a mystery character. She somehow hacks into the player’s phone, and as you go along with her plan to destroy Team Star from the beginning as you work on Mission Starfall together to defeat the five bosses. But who exactly is she?

First, she is the big boss of Team Star, the team you are trying to beat in the first place.

Second, it turns out that she is Penny, the shy trainer wearing the big plush Eevee backpack that has been giving you supplies all this time and was caught being bulled by Team Star at the very beginning of the game.

How to Beat Cassiopeia in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Upon defeating all five Star Bases, Cassiopeia tells you they are Team Star’s leader. They were the ones who created the group all those years ago and challenged you to a battle in front of the academy. They request you come only after dark. Should you arrive, Clive will be waiting for you at the location.

However, although it might look like Clive will be there for emotional support, they reveal who they are: Direct Clavell. Not only are they the Directors of the academy, but Clavell is the one who created Team Star and is the official leader. You will then need to battle against the Director and defeat them to complete the Team Star storyline.

1. How to Beat Director Clavell (Boss Fight)?

He will use six different Pokémon against you. The first five Pokémon will be level 60, while the sixth one will be Level 61. His lineup will be the following:

    • Oranguru (normal/psychic)

    • Abomasnow (grass/ice)

    • Gyarados (water/flying)

    • Amoonguss (grass/poison)

    • Polteageist (ghost)

The sixth Pokémon he uses will depend on your starter Pokémon. Cassiopeia (Director Clavell) will use an evolved version of a Pokémon that is a natural counter to your starter Pokémon. It can be either one of the following:

    • Quaquavel (water/fighting)

    • Skeledirge (fire/ghost)

    • Meowscarada (grass/dark)

After defeating Director Clavell, he reveals that he isn’t Cassiopeia and wants to test your skills before facing the real one. Then, he will ask you to go to the schoolyard at night to face and defeat the real Cassiopeia. Make sure you heal your Pokemon before heading there. Once you reach the schoolyard, a small cutscene will start where Penny will be revealed as the real Cassiopeia.

2. How to Beat Penny (Team Star Leader – Cassiopeia)?

Penny, the real Cassiopeia, uses six Pokémon in the battle against you, which are all evolutions of Eevee. The first five Pokémon will be level 62, while the last one will be level 63.

Although the Pokémon she uses are fairly high level, they are still easy to defeat, given they all have low defensive stats. Regardless, we recommend you be above level 60 before taking her on.

During the battle, Penny will use six Pokemon:

1). Umbreon (dark): This is a Dark-type Pokemon with a great Sp. Defense stat. So, using physical attacks will be very effective against it. Your best bet against this one is using Fairy, Bug, or Fighting-type Pokemon.

2). Flareon (fire): The Fire-type of her team with an insane Attack stat. Along with that, it has a good Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense stats, so using physical attacks will deal great damage. You can use Water, Ground, and Rock-type Pokemon against it.

3). Jolteon (electric): This is an Electric-type Pokemon with a massive Speed stat. It has good Sp. Attack and Special Defense as well. So physical attacks are the way to go. It is weak against Ground-type Pokemon, so attacks like Dig and Earthquake might defeat it with a single shot.

4). Vaporeon (water): This is a Water-type Pokemon with a huge HP bar. Similar to earlier ones, this, too, has a good Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense stat. So bringing in a Grass or Electric-type physical attacker will assure your victory. Attacks like Thunder Fang and Trop Kick work well against this Pokemon.

5). Leafeon (grass): It is a Grass-type Pokemon with a massive Defense stat with good Attack and Speed. So using Sp. Attacks will be very effective against this one. This Pokemon is weak against Fire, Flying, Ice, Poison, and Bug-types. Use attacks like Flamethrower and Sludge Bomb to beat it.

6). Sylveon (fairy/Tera type): She is the strongest Pokémon Penny has. It is a Fairy-type Pokémon with a Fairy Tera type as well. Note that this Pokémon can also Terastallize, so you must do the same with Poison or Steel to counter it.

After beating Penny, she will reveal the story of Team Star in a short cutscene. Then you can meet her at the bottom of the School’s Staircase, where she will give you the TM 169 Draco Meteor.

Cassiopeia Rewards and Loot

After defeating Penny’s fighters, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players are rewarded with 15,120 prize money. Navigate to Director Clavell’s office, leave the academy and have the last conversation with Penny to finish the Starfall Street story. You’ll be rewarded with TM169 Draco Meteor and unlock more TM recipes.
