The cost to convert a garage to living space is often cheaper than the cost to add a whole new addition to the home and hence the temptation to do the conversion can be great.  This article explores why converting a garage to living space may not work out as the best financial decision when it comes to your home’s value.

Certainly the additional square footage of living space may add some value to the home but the reduction of a key feature such as a garage can far outweigh the addition in value from the extra living space.  As with anything real estate related it all depends on the location so there are possibilities where a garage conversion might make sense.
